As a Christian school, religious education occurs throughout
the day. We also set aside time each day to discover,
explore and grow in our Christian faith. We utilize the
Voyages religion curriculum in grades 1-8, which involves both
daily instruction and memory work.
Following the belief that God is an integral part of our lives,
all students participate in weekly chapel and school wide prayer
gatherings. This provides
students with increased understanding of why we practice
worship, and continued opportunities to practice good church
behavior.
Mission Projects
The children participate in several mission projects during
the year. In the past we have collected money or goods for or
visited organizations such as:
- Lutheran World Relief
- Operation Christmas Child
- American Heart Association
- Can Drives for Local Food Pantries
- Kalamazoo Gospel Mission: Can Drives & Winter Coat Drive
- Shoe collection for Afghan orphans
- Lutheran High School in New Orleans: Katrina Relief
- Heifer International
- Bethania Kids India Orphanage
- SMLS Scholarship Fund
- B-93 "Roof Sit" supporting abused women and children
- Fountainview Retirement Home - students performed play
and sing for residents.
- Handstand Project - anti-abuse organization project.
- Heart to Heart, Hand in Hand

In October, the children
collect canned goods
for a local food pantry. Before the canned goods are taken to
the food pantry the kids have a building contest with them. The
chapel families each built a structure with a portion of the cans
that were collected. The Covenant Senior Day Program members judged the
buildings.

In the Fall of 2005, the St. Michael Lutheran School Children
raised money for Hurricane Katrina and Rita relief. Each bucket
in the picture below, represents $5 raised.
